Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux: product retirement

In summer 2007, all installations of Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux version 5 using the latest version are scheduled to be automatically upgraded to version 6. The fixed version of Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux version 5 will be retired on 31 August 2007. The following platforms will no longer be supported in Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux version 6:

• Red Hat Linux 7.2
• Red Hat Linux 8.0
• Red Hat Enterprise Workstation 2.1
• SuSE Linux 7.2
• SuSE Linux 8.0
• SUSE Linux Professional 9.0
• TurboLinux 8 Server
• TurboLinux Enterprise Server 8

All other supported platforms will be able to upgrade to Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux version 6 at that time.

What to do

Where possible, upgrade to a supported Linux platform to retain on-access scanning.

Otherwise, do one of the following:

• custom compile Talpa, and use Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux version 6 with 'reasonable endeavors' support
• use the Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux version 6 'savscan' on-demand scanner only
• revert to using Sophos Anti-Virus for UNIX/Linux version 4.xx.
