Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+: managing Application Control
In order to streamline the installation and maintenance of Application Control on your network, Sophos recommends that you:
- Plan a phased deployment of Application Control. This will allow you to assess the impact on your users and minimize any inconvenience. Details of how to do this can be found in
- Application Control Upgrade Guide. Refer to this if you already had Sophos
Anti-Virus version 6.0.4 and above installed, or if you upgraded to version 6.0.4 from an earlier version. - Sophos
Anti-Virus and Application Control Startup Guide. Refer to this if you made a fresh installation of Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+, version 6.
- Application Control Upgrade Guide. Refer to this if you already had Sophos
- Sign up for Application Control News, an email that lists identities that are going to be released. A list of forthcoming identities will also be published monthly in a knowledgebase article.
- Set up a procedure that you can perform each month, in advance of any new applications being added to the potentially unwanted application list. Details of how to do this, including how to use the Known Applications Tool, are in the knowledgebase article Application Control: monthly updates with KAT. Refer also to the section 'Managing monthly updates', which can be found in both the documents linked to in step 1 above.
