Sophos Client Firewall: rules for use with Yahoo Messenger

You will need to add some extra rules to Sophos Client Firewall to permit access to Yahoo Messenger.

What to do

Note:

  • The 'proxy' rules only need to be added if you are going through a company proxy.
  • The program YPAGER.EXE is launched as a hidden process. There are security implications to allowing hidden processes.

To add the rules:

  1. Select the Processes tab, and add YPAGER.EXE to the launch hidden processes list.
  2. Select the Checksums tab, and add a checksum for YPAGER.EXE.
  3. Select the Applications tab, and add the following rules:

    YPAGER.EXE

    Name = YPAGER.EXE

    Type = custom

    Rules
    • YPager port 5050
      Name = YPager port 5050

      Where the protocol is TCP
        and the direction is outbound
        and the remote port is 5050
      Allow it
    • YPager Telnet
      Name = YPager Telnet

      Where the protocol is TCP
        and the direction is outbound
        and the remote port is Telnet
      Allow it
    • YPager HTTP
      Name = YPager HTTP

      Where the protocol is TCP
        and the direction is outbound
        and the remote port is HTTP
      Allow it
    • YPager FTP
      Name = YPager FTP

      Where the protocol is TCP
        and the direction is outbound
        and the remote port is FTP
      Allow it
    • YPager SMTP
      Name = YPager SMTP

      Where the protocol is TCP
        and the direction is outbound
        and the remote port is SMTP
      Allow it
    • YPager NNTP
