Issue
Primary Server could be not be contacted when accessing Windows 2003 hosted CID from a Mac client\server. One of the following occurs:
- every time you attempt it, the update breaks with the message '
Primary Server could be Contacted' - update successful, but receives the error
'Could not mount primary file server asp:\\servername\interchk\esosx'
Sophos product and version
Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X 4.9.14
Enterprise Console 3.x
Operating system
Mac OS X 10.4
Mac OS X 10.5
Windows 2003
Technical Information
This is caused by a default Security Setting of the Server 2003, which digitally signs the communication to the Server. This causes the MAC client/server to be unable to authenticate itself on the Windows 2003 server.
What to do
On the Windows 2003 server:
- Go to 'Domain Controllers Security Settings'|Local Policies|Security Options.
- Search for 'Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (always)' and disable it.
- After a few minutes you should be able to mount a share without any problems and AutoUpdate should work properly.
- If using Active Directory please allow 15-30 minutes to populate the changes across the managed computers.
If you need more information or guidance, then please contact technical support.
