Daily Supplemental IDE files
Daily Supplementals are special virus identity (IDE) files that provide protection against batches of low-profile threats that have not yet been seen in the wild. Daily Supplementals are prefixed 'DS' and identified in a 'yymmdd' date format, for example: DS060712 would be used for a Daily Supplemental issued on 12 July 2006.
Protection against the threats included in the Daily Supplemental files will also still be bundled into the monthly updates.
In the past, all of these low-profile threats were grouped together and released monthly. Daily Supplementals enable us to make identities for these threats available to customers more frequently. This gives complete protection against threats that are not yet in the wild.
Email alerts for Daily Supplementals
Email alerts for Daily Supplementals will be in a similar format to existing IDE alert emails:

Technical details
The protection that we provide against low-profile viruses, worms and Trojans has always been passed on to customers in the monthly VDL file. The introduction of Daily Supplementals provides protection more pro-actively.
Daily Supplementals also safeguard customers against low-volume targeted attacks, which are becoming more common.
If any of the threats included in the Daily Supplemental is subsequently found in the wild, a full description of that threat will be released.
If you need more information or guidance, then please contact technical support.
