Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+: RouterNT showing high CPU usage
With Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+ installed, RouterNT.exe is showing high CPU utilization.
Possible causes for this can be:
- Large numbers of message (.msg) files have accumulated.
- The table_router.txt file is corrupt.
What to do
- In Windows services, stop the Sophos Message Router service.
- Go to the Router folder:
- For Sophos Anti-Virus version 6, this is C:\Program Files\Sophos\Remote Management System\Router
- For Sophos Anti-Virus version 7 and above, this is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sophos\Remote Management System\3\Router
- Open the 'Envelopes' folder and delete *.msg files.
- Delete the file table_router.txt.
- Restart the Sophos Message Router service.
Other reasons for high CPU utilization include:
- The message router is constantly restarting. To check this,
- Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and select Task Manager.
- Select 'Processes', and scroll to RouterNT.exe.
- If the number in the 'PID' column is constantly changing, this indicates that the router is constantly restarting. Your router log files should indicate the cause. Contact Sophos Technical Support, and have the log file information available.
- Enterprise Console: packet loss causing problems with RMS
- Poor performance or high CPU utilization when using Sophos products
