Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux: how to install

This article describes how to install Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux.

What to do

Before you start, ensure that your computers satisfy the system requirements for this product.

You can obtain Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux either by download from the Sophos website or from the Sophos Standalone Install CD.

In both cases you will require the username and password that are included with your license.

Download

  1. Log on to your Linux server as root.
  2. Go to the Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux download web page, and download the Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux tarball to a temporary directory.
  3. Follow the instructions in section 2.1.1, 'Install Sophos Anti-Virus' of the Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux Startup guide.

The Sophos Standalone Install CD

  1. Log on to your Linux server as root.
  2. Mount the Sophos Standalone Install CD. The exact command will vary according to your version of Linux, but it will resemble:
    mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
  3. Follow the instructions in section 2.1.2, 'Install Sophos Anti-Virus' of the Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux Startup guide.
Note: If you are running Sophos Anti-Virus for UNIX/Linux, version 4.x, and you want to upgrade to Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux, refer to the knowledgebase article describing how to upgrade.
