Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X: installing or removing Sophos Anti-Virus at the command line

Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X can be installed on, or removed from, your Macintosh OS X computer at the command line.

What to do

Installation at the command line

  1. Copy the 'Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg' installer file to the desktop, or other preferred location.
  2. Change directory to where the installer is. The following example uses the desktop of the logged on user.
  3. Type the following commands:

    mac# cd /Users/<username>/Desktop/
    mac# installer -pkg'Sophos Anti-Virus.mpkg' -target /

Removal at the command line

The commands used may differ; depending on the version of Sophos Anti-Virus which is installed on the Macintosh.

  1. Change to the Sophos Anti-Virus directory and type

    mac# cd /Library/Application\ Support/Sophos\ Anti-Virus
    mac# ls -al

    This will list the contents of the directory.
  2. If the file 'SAV Uninstaller.app' is in the list then:
    1. Log in as root by typing:

      mac# su -

    2. Then type

      mac# removesav

  3. If the file 'Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg' is in the list, type:

    mac# installer -pkg 'Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg' -target /
