You can create a customized Sophos
The best way to publish an installation package for downloading from the web is to make a disk image file containing the Sophos
- A disk image file is easier to host, as you do not need to configure your server specially.
- A disk image is more secure, as it is much more difficult to tamper with a disk image (dmg) file and change the contents.
- The structure of a Mac OS X .mpkg file is a set of directories to be read by the installer application. If you publish this file directly to the web, in some circumstances, the resulting list of directories cannot be downloaded and installed from.
What to do
To create a customized disk image that includes the latest IDE files and a pre-configured updating policy, use the Mac OS X Disk Utility application to create a new image.
You can find the Mac OS X Disk Utility application in Applications/Utilities on the Mac.
- Follow the instructions in the Sophos
Anti-Virus startup guide to pre-configure the Sophos AutoUpdate primary server information to match the webserver location, and to ensure the username and password have been set. - Create a new image.
- The image size should be 40 MB, and the type 'read/write'. The image will be automatically mounted on the desktop.
- Copy the file 'Sophos
Anti-Virus .mpkg' from the Central Installation Directory (CID) to the mounted disk image. - Unmount the image.
- Sophos recommends that you compress the image for download.
- Open 'Disk Utility', and select the image file you created.
- Click 'Convert'.
- Set the type to 'compressed'.
- Give the image a name.
- Select 'save'.
This will write a compressed version of the disk image to the desktop (or wherever you selected).
You can now make this available on your website for download to Mac computers.
By default, the Safari browser will recognize the disk image (dmg) file, mount it on the desktop and launch the Sophos
