Monitoring activity with savimon.exe

A utility, savimon.exe, enables you to monitor SAV Interface activity for all current versions of Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows.

Information provided includes:

  • the status of each Sophos Anti-Virus plug-in
  • the status of Sophos Anti-Virus services
  • file last scanned
  • last virus detected
  • number of files scanned
  • number of viruses detected
  • number of errors.

What to do

  1. You can download savimon.exe in a self-extracting archive from the website.
  2. Double-click 'savimon.exe' to run it.
  3. If any applications are, or have been using SAV Interface, then the SAVI Monitor window will display a list of names of SAVI objects which have been created by those applications. A green light by the SAVI object name indicates that it is currently active. Click the name of a SAVI object to see:
    • the name of the last item scanned for viruses
    • the last virus discovered
    • the total number of items scanned, viruses found and errors encountered.

Note: You cannot view a remote computer using savimon.exe in a terminal server, or remote desktop, session. The status details will not be displayed correctly. You can however use Virtual Network Computing (VNC) to run savimon.exe remotely.
