EM Library: installation error messages and warnings
Warnings or error messages may be displayed during the installation of EM Library on a local or remote computer:
- Following installation on a Windows 2000 or 2003 server
- Customised package no longer maintained
- Creating an account on a BDC
- Installing EM Library on a remote computer
Note: If a console or library installation is cancelled, and a subsequent attempt at reinstallation fails, it may be necessary to restart the target computer.
- Following installation on a Windows 2000 or 2003 server
After a library is successfully installed on a Windows 2000 or 2003 server, the following error message may be seen:Return code 0xc0000ff1 Could not initialize the DCOM security system.
Access to the EM library services may be denied. SCHED 0x80010132
This fault is due to a DCOM bug in Windows 2000/2003 Primary Domain Controllers (PDCs). You must restart the computer to clear the fault. - Customised package no longer maintained
If you customise the same package on both the primary and secondary parents of a child library, then publish it on the parents, and subscribe to it on the child, you will receive an error if the primary connection fails and the child attempts to download it from the secondary parent. The error will state that the customised package is no longer maintained.
To overcome this problem, configure the customised package on the secondary parent by exporting the primary parent library configuration using EMLExp.exe, and importing it into the secondary library. - Creating an account on a BDC
If you attempt to create the 'EMLibUser1' account for EM Library on a backup domain controller (BDC), you will receive an error message. Local accounts cannot be created on BDCs. This can also be seen sometimes on Active Directory servers. Refer to the knowledgebase article which describes alternative ways of setting up the account.
- Installing EM Library on a remote computer
Note: When installing a library onto a remote computer in a different domain, there must be a two-way trust relationship between the domains.- Warning message: '
There was an error trying to create a scheduled task on the remote machine.'
Make sure that the name for the remote computer (computername) is correct and the 'Task Scheduler' service is installed and running on the remote computer. (This service is usually installed with Internet Explorer 5 or later.) - Warning message: '
Error: The RPC server is unavailable. (1722)'
You must reinstall Internet Explorer 5 or later, select 'Custom setup' and ensure that 'Offline Browsing Pack' is checked. - Warning message: '
Could not install remotely: Catastrophic failure (65535)'
Restart the remote computer and restart the installation. If the problem persists, you will not be able to perform a remote installation and you will have to install the library locally on the target computer. - Installation appears to stop
When installing a library on a remote Windows NT4 computer for the first time, installation may appear to stop and a message is displayed on the local console. Once you 'OK' the message, installation continues, but fails with an error message.
Start the installation procedure again. It should proceed successfully. (This can happen if 'MSI.DLL' cannot be found on the remote computer and a message has been displayed on the local console.) - Cannot install remotely
When installing on to a remote Windows NT4 computer on which no-one is logged in, an error may be reported. If this happens, you will not be able to install EM Library remotely.
Go to the computer on which you want to install EM Library, log on as a user with administrative rights, and perform a local installation of EM Library on to the computer.
