Issues with Windows NT4 computers

  1. Updating CIDs on a NetWare 4 server
  2. Dial-up connections
  3. Specifying account names
  4. Long messages not logged

The following issues have been found when EM Library, version 1.2 or above, is installed on a Windows NT4 computer:

  1. Updating CIDs on a NetWare 4 server
If you run EM Library on a Windows NT4 workstation or server, and specify global or individual Central Installation Directory (CID) credentials, you may find that you cannot update CIDs held on a NetWare 4 server. (This can apply where the CIDs are for Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows or Sophos Anti-Virus for NetWare).
To solve this, do one of the following (the first is the recommended option):
    • Install the library on a Windows 2000 computer rather than a Windows NT4 computer.
    • Change the account that EM Library itself uses ('Tools|Options|Security') to an account that also exists in the root of the NDS context, and leave the fields for CID credentials blank.
  2. Dial-up connections
If you run EM Library on Windows NT4, dial-up connections to the databank may not be made automatically unless someone is logged onto the computer.
  3. Specifying account names
    • When a library is installed on a Windows NT4 primary domain controller or backup domain controller, you must prefix all account names with the name of the domain on which the account is found, i.e. domainname\account. Do not use a computer name in a domain. This may cause errors to be reported.
    • If the account is in a workgroup, not a domain, you must prefix the account name with the name of the computer on which the account is found, i.e. computername\account.
This applies to the EM Library account for services, and to any local or global account specified for accessing library files or CIDs on remote computers.
Note: You may need to add a similar prefix when configuring CID account names on other versions of Windows. However, do not specify a local computer account on a Windows 2000 server or 2003 server as local accounts do not exist on these operating systems.
  4. Long messages not logged
Messages longer than 16KB are not displayed in the Message Log of libraries running on Windows NT4 computers. They are also not saved in the computer's Application Log. Some warnings may be missed. These warnings can still be seen via email.
