EM Library: update task fails with error INDEX 0x80040403
EM Library reports the following failure in the message log:
The \\<Servername>SophosEM library update task has failed.
INDEX 0x80040403 Failed while writing the EM Library database to file. MCID 0x80040403
The most common cause of this error is that a user has attempted to 'Download Packages' in EM Library while an update is in progress. The same problem can occur if there is a corruption with the 'Sophos Enterprise Manager Scheduler' service, causing two requests to attempt to update at the same time.
What to do
Do one of the following according to whether you are running enterprise solutions or small business solutions:
Enterprise solutions
- Open Windows Services and stop the 'Sophos Enterprise Manager Scheduler' service.
- Remove the file ssdata.idx from C:\Program Files\Sophos Enterprise Manager\Library\bin.
- Restart the 'Sophos Enterprise Manager Scheduler' service.
- Create a new schedule within EM Library.
Small business solutions
- Open Windows Services and stop the 'Sophos Enterprise Manager Scheduler' service.
- Locate the file ssdata.idx. It should be in one of the following locations, according to which version of Sophos Control Center you have installed.
- C:\Program Files\Sophos\SCC
- C:\Program Files\Sophos\Control Center\bin.
- Delete the file ssdata.idx
- Restart the 'Sophos Enterprise Manager Scheduler' service.
- Re-open the Sophos Control Center.
If the problem persists, use 'Add/Remove programs' to remove Sophos EM Library, then create a new library.
