How to publish Sophos Anti-Virus/Endpoint Security and Control files on your website

You can enable users to obtain Sophos Anti-Virus/Endpoint Security and Control installation and update files from your own website (a web CID). This can be especially useful for computers that are not always connected to the network.

Refer also to the knowledgebase How to create a Web CID.

What to do

You must:

  1. Make the updates folder and its contents available on your website.
  2. Configure your computers to obtain updates from this location.

Publishing the updates folder

  1. Locate the update folder on the server that your computers currently update from.
  2. Make that folder and its contents available on your website.
  3. Specify usernames and passwords to prevent unauthorised access to this folder on your website.

Sophos AutoUpdate supports the following HTTP authentication types:

  • Basic
  • NTLM (v1 and v2)
  • Digest (AutoUpdate may fail to update with digest authentication on some web servers)

Sophos recommends that you use a secure option (i.e. NTLM v2) when configuring your company's website for Sophos updating.

The documentation for your web server will describe how to share a folder over the web and how to set up usernames and passwords for it. If you have any questions about how to do this, please contact your web server vendor.

You must now configure managed computers to update from your website or configure a single computer to update from your website .

If you use Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 you must perform additional configuration.

If you need more information or guidance, then please contact technical support.
