Sophos Anti-Virus: presence of anti-virus software not displayed on computers running Windows XP Service Pack 2 in a domain
If a workstation running Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) is in a domain, the Windows Security Center settings do not give as much information and control to the user as they do in a workgroup:
- The Windows Security Center 'shield' icon is not displayed in the system tray
- The status of Windows Firewall, Automatic Updates and anti-virus software is not displayed
- Settings cannot be adjusted for either Automatic Updates or anti-virus software
- No Windows Security Center status alerts for anti-virus software are present.
This is because, in a domain, all such configuration and notification is performed centrally.
