Sophos Anti-Virus SBE: error "SbeConsole.exe - Fatal Application Exit"
In Sophos
Occasionally this process will abort before completing and the following error message will be displayed:
"SbeConsole.exe - Fatal Application Exit"
An internal error has occurred, the application will now close.
This error can be displayed
- when a duplicate file entry is present in the temporary folder that is created by the Sophos Control Center
- if the user running the installation is a member of the Power Users group, rather than an administrator
- if incorrect credentials are being used to download updates from the databank.
The following error may also be present in the Application Log within Event Viewer:
"Error: EventID 4081"
The discription for Event ID ( 4081 ) in Source ( EM Library ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer.
What to do
Check the items below.
Duplicate file entry
- Reopen the Sophos Control Center. This should resolve the issue.
- If reopening the Sophos Control Center does not fix the problem, browse to and delete the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Sophos\Control Center\Temp
If you cannot find the above folder, run the 'Disk cleanup' utility in Windows, and delete all temporary files.
Insufficient rights
- Check that the user installing the software has administrator rights.
Note: This could be because you installed with an account accessed via the 'Install Program as Other User' dialog.
Incorrect credentials
- The Sophos Control Center can only be used if your license permits it (e.g. a license only for PureMessage Small Business Edition does not). Upgrade to a license that permits you to use the Sophos Control Center.
