MS10-053

Vendor description This security update resolves six privately reported vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer. The most severe vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted Web page using Internet Explorer. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.
SophosLabs comments The patch encompasses how Internet Explorer enforces security checks and handles objects in memory. At worst, an attacker who successfully exploits these vulnerabilities would gain the rights and privileges of the local user. The fact that these vulnerabilities were privately disclosed and that we are yet to see any malware that exploit these issues have been considered when assigning the SophosLabs threat rating of Medium, although we do recommend that users apply this patch at their earliest convenience.
