MS10-044 - Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office Access ActiveX Controls Could Allow Remote Code Execution (982335) |
| CVE/CAN name | CVE-2010-0814 CVE-2010-1881 |
| Vendor threat level | Critical |
| SophosLabs threat level | Medium |
| Solution | |
| Vendor description | This security update resolves two privately reported vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office ActiveX Controls. The vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user opened a specially crafted Office file or viewed a web page that instantiated Access ActiveX controls. |
| SophosLabs comments | This advisory encompasses the way memory is accessed by Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer when loading Access ActiveX controls. Exploiting this vulnerability gives an attacker the same rights and privileges as the user running the Access ActiveX control. The fact that these vulnerabilities have not been publicly disclosed, and that we are yet to see any malware that exploit these issues have been considered when assigning the SophosLabs threat rating of Medium. |
| SophosLabs testing result | N/A |
| Currently known exploits | At the time of writing SophosLabs have not observed any malware attempting to exploit this vulnerability. Should this situation change samples will be analyzed and we will take action as necessary. |
| First sample seen | N/A |
