Advisory: Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux - automatic upgrade from v. 6.7 to 7.1

In the software maintenance update, due for release in May, Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux will automatically upgrade from version 6.7 to version 7.1. This is to align the features in Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux with Sophos Anti-Virus for UNIX version 7.

What are the changes?
Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux version 7.1 introduces some minor changes. The most significant is the expanded scope of management using Sophos Enterprise Console.

Using the Enterprise Console you can now:
  • Configure and run scheduled scans
  • Initiate a full system scan
  • Use the 'Update Now' function to ensure the latest identity files are available at the endpoint.
For further information refer to the Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux documentation and Help, which will be available when the product is updated.

Why is the version number changing?
The version number is changing to show the alignment with the Sophos Anti-Virus for UNIX software (which itself will upgrade from version 7.0.20 to 7.1). This is why there has been a major version number change, although the functional differences are minor.

We believe that it makes sense to show the same version number for Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux and UNIX when there is shared software functionality.

When will this take place?
This change will take place in the May maintenance release, which we forecast occurring at the beginning of May.

Do I need to do anything?
No. This is being released during a maintenance upgrade, so Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux version 6.7 will upgrade to version 7.1 automatically.
