Advisory: Changes to the way version numbers increment on monthly updates

With the release of Endpoint Security and Control version 9.0.5 (April 2010) and Sophos Anti-Virus version 7.6.20 (May 2010) we are changing the way in which version numbers are applied to monthly updates.

• The version number of Sophos Anti-Virus will only be incremented if any components have changed, e.g. SAV, SAU, RMS, SCF.
• If changes are only made to the virus engine and virus data, the version number of Sophos Anti-Virus will not change.

This means that identification of the latest release of Endpoint Security and Control will require a combination of the Sophos Anti-Virus version shown in the user interface (under Software) together with the Detection data version.

For example, we are currently (April 2010) running Sophos Anti-Virus 9.0.5 and Detection data 4.53G. Next month (May 2010) you will see Sophos Anti-Virus 9.0.5 with Detection data 4.54 and so on. The screen shot below illustrates the areas to look at in the interface.
