Virus identity (IDE) files: using on UNIX

Using Sophos Anti-Virus virus identity (IDE) files on UNIX. The paths used here are those described in the UNIX server installation guide and UNIX/Linux single user installation guide. These instructions assume a default installation. Your setup could be more complex.

What to do

Note: Old IDE files are not automatically deleted from Central Installation Directories (CIDs). You should delete them and replace them with IDEs for the correct version.

  1. Delete the old IDEs from /usr/local/sav
  2. Copy the new IDEs into /usr/local/sav

The new IDEs will be used when the Sophos Anti-Virus program sweep is next loaded.

Updating Sophos Anti-Virus, versions in maintenance, on Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003 workstations

  1. At the server, copy the IDE files to the CID for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 workstations. The default is \\<servername>\InterChk\NTInst\i386 where <servername> is the name of your server.
  2. At the Windows taskbar, select Start|Run.
  3. Browse to Setup.exe in your CID (see step 1) and select it.
  4. At the very end of the path in the 'Run' window, type a space followed by /update.
  5. Click OK.
  6. The workstations will update when they next check for a central update.

The final path in step 4 should take the form \\<servername>\InterChk\NTInst\i386\Setup.exe /update where <servername> is the name of your server.

Updating Sophos Anti-Virus, versions in maintenance, on Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows Me workstations

  2. At the Windows taskbar, select Start|Run.
  3. Browse to Setup.exe in your CID (see step 1) and select it.
  4. At the very end of the path in the 'Run' window, type a space followed by /update.
  5. Click OK.
  6. If necessary, click on the 'Done' button.
  7. The workstations will update when they next check for a central update.

The final path in step 4 should take the form \\<servername>\InterChk\W95Inst\Setup.exe /update where <servername> is the name of your server.
