MailMonitor for SMTP: running on the same computer as the SMTP server
You can use MailMonitor for SMTP on the same computer as your SMTP server. However, you must change the port setting for the SMTP server and configure MailMonitor for SMTP appropriately.
What to do
MailMonitor should be configured to receive external email by listening on port 25. You specify what interface(s) MailMonitor will listen on during installation.
The SMTP server then needs to be configured to listen on a different port. This could be any port that is not in use by another application (e.g. port 24, which is reserved for any private mail system). The procedure for changing the port which the SMTP server listens on is detailed in the manual for your SMTP server.
The IP address and port number of the SMTP server then need to be set in the MailMonitor configuration file (mmsmtp.cfg). These are set during installation but can be changed at any time by editing the [general] section of the configuration file.
