High file server utilisation

Sophos Anti-Virus for NetWare could appear to use a high percentage of processing time.

The Novell program MONITOR.NLM shows the file server utilisation as a percentage. This can be 1% or 2% when the network is idle. When Sophos Anti-Virus for NetWare is started in immediate mode, or while a scheduled scan is running, utilisation may jump to over 70%.

Sophos Anti-Virus for NetWare uses any processing time during which the server would otherwise be idle; if other requests for resources are made, Sophos Anti-Virus for NetWare gives up those resources to the requesting process.

A high utilisation figure when running Sophos Anti-Virus for NetWare should not normally affect network performance.
