Instructions for removing W32/Goner-A
The Sophos technical support department has written a batch file, available in English, which you can use to remove infections of W32/Goner-A.
Please click on rmgonera.bat to download the batch file. When asked, save it to disk and select the Windows Desktop.
Windows 95/98/Me systems
- Find the rmgonera.bat batch file (the .bat extension may not appear).
- Double-click it to run it. (This will instruct Windows to delete worm files when you reboot).
- When rmgonera.bat has finished running, reboot your computer.
- When the computer has rebooted, double-click rmgonera.bat to run it again. (This will reverse the changes to the registry).
- Check that Sophos Anti-Virus is installed and running correctly on your computer with all the latest virus identities (W32/Goner-A attempts to disable and remove Sophos Anti-Virus and other anti-virus products).
- Scan all hard drives to ensure that the worm has gone.
- At the Windows Taskbar, select Start|Programs|Sophos Anti-Virus|Sophos Anti-Virus SWEEP.
- Check for a green light by 'C:' or 'Local hard drives'.
- Click the 'Go' button on the toolbar to start the scan.
- If worm files remain use the instructions for removing worms.
Windows NT/2000/XP systems
- Press the Ctrl, Alt and Del keys at the same time to run Task Manager.
- Select the 'Applications' tab, choose 'Pentagone' and press End Task to halt the application. Click 'OK' on any error messages.
- Find the rmgonera.bat batch file (the .bat extension may not appear).
- Double-click it to run it.
- Check that Sophos Anti-Virus is installed and running correctly on your computer with all the latest virus identities (W32/Goner-A attempts to disable and remove Sophos Anti-Virus and other anti-virus products).
- Scan all hard drives to ensure that the worm has gone.
- At the Windows Taskbar, select Start|Programs|Sophos Anti-Virus|Sophos Anti-Virus.
- Check for a green light by 'C:' or 'Local hard drives'.
- Click the 'Go' button on the toolbar to start the scan.
- If worm files remain use the instructions for removing worms.
If worm files are found on any platform other than Windows 95/98/Me or Windows NT/2000/XP, use the instructions for removing worms for that platform.
