More Information
W32/Tilebot-O is a worm and IRC backdoor Trojan for the Windows platform.
W32/Tilebot-O runs continuously in the background, providing a backdoor server which allows a remote intruder to gain access and control over the computer via IRC channels.
W32/Tilebot-O includes functionality to:
- steal confidential information
- carry out DDoS flooder attacks
- provide a proxy server
- silently download, install and run new software
- access the internet and communicate with a remote server via HTTP
- disable other software, including anti-virus, firewall and security related applications
W32/Tilebot-O spreads to other network computers by exploiting common buffer overflow vulnerabilites, including: LSASS (MS04-011), RPC-DCOM (MS04-012), MSSQL (MS02-039) (CAN-2002-0649), PNP (MS05-039) and ASN.1 (MS04-007) and by copying itself to network shares protected by weak passwords.
W32/Tilebot-O may also contact remote websites over HTTP to test internet connections.
W32/Tilebot-O attempts to disable the following processes:
Telnet
Remote Registry
Messenger
Windows Firewall/ICS
Security Center
When first run W32/Tilebot-O creates the file <System>\rdriv.sys.
The file rdriv.sys is detected as Troj/Rootkit-W.
The following patches for the operating system vulnerabilities exploited by W32/Tilebot-O can be obtained from the Microsoft website:
MS04-007
MS04-011
MS04-012
MS02-039
MS05-039

When first run W32/Tilebot-O copies itself to <Windows>\dcznetv2.exe and creates the file <System>\rdriv.sys.
The file rdriv.sys is detected as Troj/Rootkit-W.
The file dcznetv2.exe is registered as a new system driver service named "dcznetv2", with a display name of "dcznetv2" and a startup type of automatic, so that it is started automatically during system startup. Registry entries are created under:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\dcznetv2\
