More Information

W32/Tilebot-L is a worm and IRC backdoor Trojan for the Windows platform.

W32/Tilebot-L spreads to other network computers by exploiting common buffer overflow vulnerabilites, which may include: PNP (MS05-039) and MSSQL (MS02-039).

W32/Tilebot-L runs continuously in the background, providing a backdoor server which allows a remote intruder to gain access and control over the computer via IRC channels.

W32/Tilebot-L includes functionality to access the internet and communicate with a remote server via HTTP.

When first run W32/Tilebot-L copies itself to <Windows>\sysdat.exe and creates the file <System>\lpdriver.sys, which is a corrupt file.

W32/Tilebot-L will attempt to register the file lpdriver.sys as a new system driver service named "Lpdriver", with a display name of "Lpdriver". Registry entries are created under:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Lpdriver\

The file sysdat.exe is registered as a new system driver service named "VIRUS", with a display name of "change me please", a description of "this is it, you're dead" and a startup type of automatic, so that it is started automatically during system startup. Registry entries are created under:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VIRUS\
and
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_VIRUS\

W32/Tilebot-L sets the following registry entries, disabling the automatic startup of other software:

Start
4

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RemoteRegistry
Start

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TlntSvr
