W32/Sohana-AX is a worm and backdoor Trojan which allows a remote intruder to gain access and control over the computer.

W32/Sohana-AX includes functionality to access the internet and communicate with a remote server via HTTP.

When first run W32/Sohana-AX copies itself to:

<Windows>\regsvr.exe
<System>\regsvr.exe
<System>\winhelp.exe

and creates the following files:

<System>\ijl11pro.dll - not malicious and can be safely removed
<System>\rundll.exe - detected as W32/Sohana-AX
<System>\setup.ini - detected as Troj/Agent-GXM

W32/Sohana-AX may install a new version of the file <System>\comctl32.ocx. This file is not malicious.

The following registry entry is created to run regsvr.exe on startup:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Yahoo Messengger
<System>\regsvr.exe

The following registry entries are changed to run winhelp.exe and rundll.exe on startup:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Shell
Explorer.exe rundll.exe
