More Information
Sophos's anti-virus products include Genotype™ detection technology, which can proactively protect against new threats without requiring an update. Sophos customers have been protected against W32/Sdbot-AZA (detected as W32/Sdbot-Gen) since version 3.93
W32/Sdbot-AZA is a worm and IRC backdoor Trojan for the Windows platform.
W32/Sdbot-AZA runs continuously in the background, providing a backdoor server which allows a remote intruder to gain access and control over the computer via IRC channels.
W32/Sdbot-AZA attempts to work in partnership with a Ranck Trojan. In particualar, W32/Sdbot-AZA has recently been seen alongside Troj/Ranck-DW.
The combined "Sdranck" may be stored in a file called ucmd.exe, and it is this file that W32/Sdbot-AZA attempts to spread. This spreading can occurr via IRC chat channels or via network shares protected by weak passwords.
When first run W32/Sdbot-AZA copies itself to <System>\fallfour.exe.
The following registry entries are created to run fallfour.exe on startup:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
UCmd
fallfour.exe
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
UCmd
fallfour.exe
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
