More Information
W32/Sdbot-AJA is a worm and IRC backdoor Trojan for the Windows platform.
W32/Sdbot-AJA spreads to other network computers by exploiting common buffer overflow vulnerabilities, including: RPC-DCOM (MS04-012) and ASN.1 (MS04-007).
W32/Sdbot-AJA includes functionalities to:
- access the internet and communicate with a remote server via HTTP
- allow a remote intruder to gain access and control over the infected computer via IRC
When run, W32/Sdbot-AJA copies itself to <Windows>\dcmhelp.exe.
The file dcmhelp.exe is registered as a new system driver service named "DcomHelper", with a display name of "DcomHelper Service" and a startup type of automatic, so that it is started automatically during system startup. When run, W32/Sdbot-AJA sets the following registry entries:
