Windows NT/2000/XP
In Windows NT/2000/XP you will also need to edit the following registry entry. The removal of this entry is optional in Windows 95/98/Me. Please read the warning about editing the registry.
At the taskbar, click Start|Run. Type 'Regedit' and press Return. The registry editor opens.
Before you edit the registry, you should make a backup. On the 'Registry' menu, click 'Export Registry File'. In the 'Export range' panel, click 'All', then save your registry as Backup.
Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entry:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
Com+= <Windows system>\COM+.EXE -nouninst
and delete it if it exists.
Close the registry editor.
More Information
W32/Randon-O is a network worm composed of several parts within a self-extracting archive file.
When run, the worm creates the following files within the Windows system folder:
COM+.EXE - mIRC client
COMWIZ.DLL - DLL plugin used by worm
COMWIZ.EXE - main dropper file
CONF.INI - INI file used by the worm
HTML.DLL - clean DLL plugin
MSNCHAT42.OCX - clean OCX related to MSN
MSOCK.SK - INI file used by the worm
MSPLIT.SK - INI file used by the worm
NB.BAT - Troj/Flood-CF. Troj/Flood-CF contains a script that allows the worm to spread and may attempt to delete certain network shares
NHTML.SK - Troj/Flood-U
NTMANG.EXE - clean networking utility called PSEXEC.EXE
SCAN.SK - Troj/Flood-U
W32/Randon-O creates the following entry in the registry to run COM+.EXE on system restart:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
Com+= <Windows system>\COM+.EXE -nouninst
W32/Randon-O copies itself to and executes itself on computers with weak passwords within the network.
