Windows NT/2000/XP/2003

In Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 you will also need to edit the following registry entry. The removal of this entry is optional in Windows 95/98/Me. Please read the warning about editing the registry.

At the taskbar, click Start|Run. Type 'Regedit' and press Return. The registry editor opens.

Before you edit the registry, you should make a backup. On the 'Registry' menu, click 'Export Registry File'. In the 'Export range' panel, click 'All', then save your registry as Backup.

Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entry:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and delete it if it exists.

Close the registry editor.

More Information

W32/IRCFlood-M is a multicomponent IRC worm for the Windows platform.

W32/IRCFlood-M spreads via IRC channels.

W32/IRCFlood-M runs continuously in the background, providing a backdoor server which may allow a remote intruder to gain access and control over the computer via IRC channels.

W32/IRCFlood-M includes functionality to access the internet and communicate with a remote server via HTTP.

When W32/IRCFlood-M is installed files are created under the following folder:

<System>\poytura

These files include:

<System>\himansz\hide.exe - A legitimate application used to hide application windows.
<System>\poytura\mirc.exe - detected as W32/Mirchack-G
<System>\poytura\3 - detected as W32/IRCFlood-L
<System>\poytura\4 - detected as W32/IRCFlood-L

The rest of the files in <System>\himansz may be deleted.

The following registry entry is created to run mirc.exe on startup:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
