Replace the Hosts file from a backup or edit it in Notepad to remove the changes that the Trojan has made.

Windows NT/2000/XP/2003

In Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 you will also need to edit the following registry entry. The removal of this entry is optional in Windows 95/98/Me. Please read the warning about editing the registry.

At the taskbar, click Start|Run. Type 'Regedit' and press Return. The registry editor opens.

Before you edit the registry, you should make a backup. On the 'Registry' menu, click 'Export Registry File'. In the 'Export range' panel, click 'All', then save your registry as Backup.

Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entry:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and delete it if it exists.

Close the registry editor.

More Information

Troj/Lineage-Y is a password stealing Trojan for the Windows platform that
attempts to steal passwords associated with the online game called "Lineage".

When first run Troj/Lineage-Y copies itself to <Windows>\wwf.exe and creates the file <System>\wwf.dll.

The created file <System>\wwf.dll is also detected as Troj/Lineage-Y.

The following registry entry is created to run wwf.exe on startup:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
wow
<Windows>\wwf.exe

Troj/Lineage-Y modifies the HOSTS file, changing the URL-to-IP mappings for selected websites, therefore preventing normal access to these sites. The new HOSTS file will typically contain the following:
