Windows NT/2000/XP/2003
In Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 you will also need to edit the following registry entry. The removal of this entry is optional in Windows 95/98/Me. Please read the warning about editing the registry.
At the taskbar, click Start|Run. Type 'Regedit' and press Return. The registry editor opens.
Before you edit the registry, you should make a backup. On the 'Registry' menu, click 'Export Registry File'. In the 'Export range' panel, click 'All', then save your registry as Backup.
Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entry:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
sysMett1
C:\Program Files\explorer.exe
and delete it if it exists.
Close the registry editor.
More Information
Troj/LegMir-Y is a password stealing Trojan which attempts to steal password and user information from players of the online multi-player role-playing game, Lineage.
When first run on Win9X the Trojan will first copy the original Windows files rundll32.exe from the Windows folder and internat.exe from the Windows system folder to C:\ then overwrite them with itself.
When first run on Win2K/XP the Trojan will copy itself to the Windows Program Files folder as explorer.exe and create the following registry entry so as to auto-start on computer reboot:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
sysMett1
C:\Program Files\explorer.exe
Troj/LegMir-Y will also drop a helper dll into the Windows system folder as htdll.dll and load it.
Troj/LegMir-Y may attempt to terminate some anti-virus and security related processes.
