If the item is infected, MailMonitor protects users by denying access to it, but the infection is still present. This problem arises from a bug in Microsoft's NNTP transport. Customers can remove this problem by applying Windows Service Pack 4, available from the Microsoft website. 4 Additional information ------------------------ a) The default action in the case of a 'scanner error' and 'error' is 'No action - ignore the event'. Sophos strongly recommends that this action is not changed. b) Scanning of mailboxes in the information store should be performed using MailMonitor for Exchange only. The Installable File System in Exchange 2000(usually designated as drive M:) should be excluded from scans performed using Sophos Anti-Virus. A more detailed explanation regarding this issue can be found on the Microsoft website in the knowledge base article Q298924 at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b298924 c) When MailMonitor is uninstalled, the message cache directory INSTALLDIR/Temp is left on the server. If you no longer need this directory, delete it. d) When MailMonitor is uninstalled, the quarantine directory INSTALLDIR/Quarantine is left on the server. This enables you to retain quarantined items during uninstallation and reinstallation of MailMonitor. If you no longer need this directory, delete it. e) To ensure MailMonitor has full access to the information store, scheduled and on-demand scans of the Exchange mailboxes should not be performed when back-ups are being made of the Exchange server. These tasks must be allowed to complete separately. f) Sophos recommends that you disable InterCheck client, the on-access scanning component of Sophos Anti-Virus, on the Exchange server. See section 6 for further information. 5 System requirements --------------------- To install MailMonitor for Exchange, the minimum requirements are: * Active Directory * Microsoft Management Console (MMC) 1.2 * Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 SP1 or above or Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 NOTE: The Exchange Server components need to be installed under Active Directory.
