New version of Sophos Security Suite Small Business Edition now protects confidential company data Latest upgrade includes encryption, application and device control and protects Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

Small Business Solutions

BOSTON – October 14, 2009 – IT security and data protection firm Sophos today announced the availability of its new version of Sophos Security Suite Small Business Edition 4.0, which now includes Sophos SafeGuard encryption and integrated application and device control to help smaller businesses take steps to protect their confidential data. Built off of Sophos’s existing anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, and desktop firewall functionality that are easily managed via the new Sophos Control Center, this latest version now includes protection for both Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

"The new Sophos Control Center is an extremely intuitive interface that allows administrators to quickly spot issues without having to scroll down through a lot of computers,” said Sophos small business customer, Rita Dixson at 3D Corporation based in Washington. “The enhancements to the dashboard allow efficient navigation to the correct location to obtain more information and resolve any noted issues. The new device and application control were effective in testing and are an addition that will give businesses better awareness and control over their networks. This product is a huge step forward and continues the excellence that we have seen in previous versions of Sophos products."

The application control and device control capabilities are built into the anti-virus client, which simplifies deployment - and depending on productivity or security concerns - blocks or allows the installation and use of applications such as VoIP, IM, P2P, games, instant messaging, and virtualization applications. In the case of device control, the administrator also has the option of blocking or allowing end users from using removable storage devices, optical media, modems and wireless interfaces.

"Many small businesses simply don’t have the time or a dedicated IT staff to protect against the latest threats and data leakage prevention. To make things even more challenging for small businesses, they are being held to the same regulatory compliance standards as larger corporations,” said Artur Kocharyan, product manager for small business solutions at Sophos. “A data breach could be just as devastating for a small business – and as threat landscape evolves, protecting IT infrastructure and sensitive customer data needs to be a priority for all businesses. By integrating application control and device control into the existing anti-virus client and providing simple encryption tools, small businesses can easily protect critical information without adding extra administrative or financial burden."

In addition to easy to use encryption, application and device control features, this release also includes, enhanced zero-day threat protection with built-in host intrusion prevention and web script attack blocking - and automatic removal of existing anti-virus makes it easy for those choosing to switch to Sophos from other vendors.

All existing customers will be able to upgrade to the latest protection free of charge and can choose the level of protection that is right for their business. The Sophos small business edition (SBE) line includes: Sophos Security Suite SBE, Sophos Computer Security SBE and Sophos Anti-Virus SBE, and can be purchased online via Sophos Channel Partners or by contacting your nearest Sophos office.
