IT security and control firm Sophos today announced that Director, Global Sales Engineering, Michael Argast at Sophos will present, "Securing Data Made Easy: Learning from current mishaps, implementing an action plan" on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 12:15pm – 1:00pm at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV.

Open to all Expo attendees, this educational session will walk through some of today’s most high profile breaches. Attendees will leave armed with a list of things to consider when approaching the data security problem for your organization.

"Complexity is the enemy of security and if security is painful for users, they will bypass it and result in data leakage." - Michael Argast, Sophos

Data breaches have become nearly a daily occurrence. Whether it's a small-scale embarrassment or major financial disruption, there's plenty to be concerned about when it comes to confidential data leakage. Data loss commonly occurs via email and mobile data storage devices (including laptops, USB keys and optical media). A total of 95% of such losses are unintentional. Companies are required to meet industry and government regulatory compliance, which can be challenging for many for numerous reasons. Penalties and mishaps are inevitable if an organization is not complaint.

Argast leads a global team of consultants responsible for advising Sophos customers on their security and control implementations, practices and policies. He has more than 10 years experience in the IT industry, specializing in networking and security. His depth of experience includes delivering solutions for many of the Global 500 companies in finance, healthcare and telecoms, as well as many large government and high profile education organizations.

Michael joined Sophos via the acquisition in 2003 of a leading email security software vendor, ActiveState. Prior to that, he worked primarily in the networking sector helping to promote the adoption of Internet technologies in Canada.

Michael regularly serves as a security source for the Wall Street Journal, The Associated Press, USA Today, New York Times, BusinessWeek, Forbes, The Washington Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, Everything Channel, SearchSecurity, InformationWeek, ECT News Network, FOX News, and other industry and business publications. Michael also speaks at industry conferences such as Interop, and leading educational symposiums on the topics of information security control and data protection best practices.
