Sophos appoints new channel director to grow UK business and form new partnerships Another big player from Microsoft joins Sophos

Jonathan Hughes
Jonathan Hughes has joined Sophos from Microsoft.

IT security and control firm Sophos has appointed Jonathan Hughes as UK channel sales director. Based at the company's UK headquarters in Oxfordshire, Hughes will be responsible for expanding Sophos's UK operations, identifying new channel routes to market and winning security and control market share from its competitors.

Hughes joins Sophos from Microsoft, where he was employed for 14 years, most recently assuming the position of director of Microsoft Partner Group. In this role, Hughes held responsibility over Microsoft's route to market in the UK, overseeing and maintaining relationships with a 33,000 strong community of resellers. During 2006/7, he was able to grow Microsoft's small and mid-market business by 15 percent. Hughes has also held positions at PrecisionPoint and International Computer Limited (ICL).

Amongst his objectives at Sophos, Hughes will look to form new channel partnerships with service providers and systems integrators, as well as recruit new resellers, in order to substantially grow Sophos's UK business. He will also be responsible for the development of new tailored channel marketing programmes designed to help Sophos's Partners differentiate themselves in order to gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace and maximise their sales return.

"Sophos has demonstrated continued fiscal and product growth and is today a mature and nimble player in this competitive space - great news for both a newcomer like me and our business partners," said Jonathan Hughes. "With Sophos's Network Access Control and managed email and web appliance offerings, our channel partners have a real opportunity to stand out in this crowded marketplace. My role will be to engage with partners and ensure they have both the support and expertise to succeed and win new business."

"Jonathan brings to this role considerable expertise in channel strategy development and execution, making him well-placed to meet and exceed our growth targets," said Andrew Bradshaw, VP UK Sales and Marketing. "I'm confident that Jonathan's proven track record in driving channel sales, coupled with the recent improvements to our Partner Program will ensure that partners old and new will want to step up their activities with Sophos and generate additional business together."
