Sophos releases new version of PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange Simplified management and increased flexibility provide more control

IT security and control firm, Sophos, has announced the release of PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange 3.0, to protect the email servers of organizations running Microsoft operating systems against email-borne threats, including spam, phishing, viruses and spyware. The new release, which provides support for Microsoft Exchange 2007 and 64 bit Windows Server 2003, significantly enhances the ability to define and enforce email content policies across multiple servers.

Fully integrated and synchronized with Active Directory, PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange 3.0 enables businesses to easily define email content policies and exceptions for pre-existing groups and/or individual users. This not only saves administrators' valuable time, it also allows them to more easily monitor and control the types of emails and attachments sent by employees from different departments both within and out of the company. The ability to apply different policies and configuration options to inbound, outbound and internal email, offers organizations greater control over the flow of information. For example, these configuration options could be used to quarantine outbound messages that might contain business-sensitive data.

For businesses using PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange 3.0 on multiple servers, administrators can monitor, configure and enforce policies across all servers from a single console. In addition, PureMessage 3.0 supports all the main clustering models for Microsoft Exchange, critical for providing failover for business critical applications. Complementing this, the new security dashboard provides an overview of the status of each server, giving system administrators a simple way to quickly monitor and manage all the servers, as well as email throughput and quarantine databases status. Furthermore, reports and graphical charts of the dashboard data can be quickly generated to highlight trends and to identify any issues.

"Sophos PureMessage 3.0 has literally solved our spam problem overnight," said Cesar Feghali, IT consultant at Simply Wireless, a provider of wireless technology for consumers and businesses. "Our employees used to have to deal with around 100 new spam messages every morning, but we now receive no spam. This is having a great impact on staff productivity as they no longer have to spend the first part of every morning clearing their inboxes, and we can also be confident that no malicious spam messages are slipping through the filters and trying to infect our network."

"Email is not just a vector for cybercriminals looking to infect corporate networks with malware - inappropriate use of business email can drain network resources, impact staff productivity, or result in data leakage," said John Stringer, product manager at Sophos. "Sophos PureMessage gives system administrators unprecedented control of their email systems to protect companies against email-borne attacks, wasted resource and data leaks."
