Zero-day threats explored in Sophos podcast Fraser Howard and Carole Theriault discuss how to defend yourself against an unknown enemy

Sophos, a world leader in IT security and control, today announced that it has published a new podcast discussing zero-day threats (a threat which has been released into the wild before security vendors have issued protection against it).

In the podcast, Sophos principal virus researcher Fraser Howard describes what zero-day threats are, addresses the controversy surrounding the disclosure of vulnerability information, and offers advice to users and administrators on how to defend against malicious attacks.

"Hackers can attack users by targeting unpatched vulnerabilities in your operating system and software applications. This is particularly dangerous when the software vendor has not yet released a patch against the problem," said Carole Theriault, host of the Sophos podcast. "Users of all operating systems, even Vista with its enhanced security features, should be on their guard against zero-day threats. In this podcast Fraser describes how consumers and businesses can best defend themselves from attack."

All Sophos podcasts are available for download at www.sophos.com/podcasts. Previous podcasts have covered topics such as managed appliances, image spam, phishing, Microsoft Windows Vista, corporate security policies, network access control, web threats, and rootkits.
