Pompidou Center stops spam and viruses with Sophos email security appliance ES4000 defends world famous museum from malware and spam

Sophos, a world leader in IT security and control, today announced that the Pompidou Center in Paris, home to the French national museum of modern art and a vast public library, has selected the ES4000 Email Security Appliance to protect its email gateway from malware and spam.

Safeguarding more than 1000 users at the Pompidou, the Sophos email security appliance was selected over a number of competitors thanks to its ability to significantly reduce the amount of security administration required at the institution. Since the Sophos appliance was installed, Pompidou's IT administrators have seen a considerable drop in the amount of unwanted email.

"The emails from our partners were getting lost in the flood of spam - some inboxes were receiving more than 200 spams a day," said Olivier Bielecki, CIO for the Pompidou Center. "With the ES4000 in place, not only has spam virtually disappeared from our network, but we haven't had any problems with genuine messages being mistakenly blocked by the filter. Plus, thanks to Sophos support and remote monitoring services looking after much of the administration, we are free to focus on other tasks critical to running the centre."

Featuring an intuitive web-based interface and automated security updates, the enterprise-grade ES4000 protects against the growing threat of viruses, Trojans, spyware, spam and policy abuse in both inbound and outbound email traffic. The security appliance also receives automated virus and spam protection updates every five minutes and can process millions of email messages each day. Its innovative 24-hour "heartbeat" remote monitoring, built-in diagnostics and on-demand remote assistance offer additional support to the email security manager, ensuring uptime whilst greatly reducing administration.

"Large high-profile institutions are often easy targets for spammers, so it is not surprising the Pompidou was desperate to deal with the problem," said Christian Pijoulat, Head of Sophos France. "They wanted a solution that would free up much needed resources, so Sophos's ES4000 was a perfect fit - designed to be installed and then left to do its thing, the IT team can now focus their skills on other priorities."
