Spamming casinos use nudity to lure gamblers Online casinos can't offer alchohol, but can provide naked dealers

Experts at SophosLabs™, Sophos's global network of virus, spyware and spam analysis centers, have identified that casinos are using nudity to draw computer users via spam to online gambling websites.

Sophos's anti-spam products have been updated to protect against a spam campaign that attempts to lure internet users to a nude casino, with emails such as the following:

The emails promote a nude casino

Clicking on the link contained in the emails takes users to a gambling website which plays a video about its live nude dealers, and encourages computer users to register.

"Casinos on the Las Vegas strip provide cheap or free alcoholic beverages to lessen the mental processes of gamblers. Online casinos don't have that luxury, so it appears they are trying to distract gamblers in more titillating ways," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos. "Whatever you think of these tactics, the gambling websites are in danger of breaking the law by sending unsolicited spam like this. Companies and home users need to protect themselves from the nuisance of junk mail, and boycott those businesses who are supporting it."

Last month, Sophos reported how two companies are having legal action taken against them following claims that emails promoting gambling and alcoholic drinks were spammed out to children.

Sophos recommends that companies protect themselves with a consolidated solution which can defend against the threats of spam, spyware and viruses.
