Sophos appoints industry heavyweight as new principal virus researcher Fraser Howard joins Sophos from McAfee
Fraser Howard has joined Sophos from McAfee.
Sophos, a world leader in protecting businesses against viruses, Trojans, spyware and spam, has appointed industry veteran Fraser Howard as principal virus researcher. Based at Sophos's global headquarters, Howard will research new threats and drive product developments to counter new types of attacks against business.
Howard joins Sophos from McAfee where he managed anti-malware researchers across EMEA, directed research efforts, and analyzed emerging threats on the Windows 32 platform since 2000. A respected security expert, Howard was previously technical editor of Virus Bulletin magazine, the industry's leading publication dealing with the issue of viruses and associated malware.
Howard's particular areas of interest include heuristic and generic proactive methods of protecting against malware, and the automated processing of suspect code.

Howard will work alongside SophosLabs' team of experts, based in UK, Australia, Canada, and US, who issue 24-hour protection in order to ensure customers' networks automatically detect and block new threats.
