New Bagles bombard the internet

Bagels
The number of Bagles has increased

Experts at SophosLabs™, Sophos's global network of virus, spyware and spam analysis centers, have warned users to be on the lookout for new variants of the Bagle Trojan horse which have been spammed out to internet users over the last 24 hours. Sophos is advising users to ensure their anti-virus protection is up-to-date to protect against attacks.

Sophos has received reports of the Troj/BagleDl-AF, Troj/BagleDl-AG, Troj/BagleDl-AH, Troj/BagleDl-AI, Troj/BagleDl-AJ Trojan horses, and users opening their email may be at risk from infection if not properly protected.

"The Bagle Trojan horses are being distributed widely in an attempt to infect as many people as possible," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos. "But the advice remains the same for each: never open an unsolicited email attachment. With over 1500 new viruses, Trojans and spyware programs being discovered every month its important for businesses to automate their virus protection against the latest malware menaces."

"The person or people behind this latest Bagle Trojan outbreak are exploiting zombie networks of compromised computers to spread their malicious code," continued Cluley. "It's vital that all computer users ensure they have defenses in place to prevent their PC from being taken over and abused by hackers in this way."

Sophos recommends companies protect their email with a consolidated solution to thwart the virus and spam threats and secure their desktops and servers with automatically updated anti-virus protection.
