Microsoft issues three critical security patches, Sophos reports

As part of its monthly patch distribution, Microsoft has issued six security updates yesterday, three of which are critical. The critical patches address remote code execution flaws in Internet Explorer, Plug and Play as well as in Windows's Print Spooler Service.
"Remote code execution flaws can allow unauthorised and remote access to a computer," said Carole Theriault, security consultant for Sophos. "It would certainly be wise for all affected users to patch their computers now before someone finds a way to exploit the loophole."
Home users of Microsoft Windows can visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com to have their systems scanned for critical Microsoft security vulnerabilities.
Sophos recommends that every IT manager responsible for security should consider subscribing to vulnerability mailing lists such as that operated by Microsoft at www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/notify.mspx.
Sophos continues to recommend companies protect their desktops and servers with automatically updated anti-virus protection.
