WestNet email stays safe with Sophos

Sophos, a world leading computer security expert, today announced that National ISP WestNet has become an ISP Partner. WestNet has deployed Sophos's integrated anti-spam and anti-virus solution to protect its members' email communications.

WestNet was voted number one in Australia for customer satisfaction in the recent 16th ACNielsen Consult Australian Broadband Online Survey 2004. The company provides services to more than 70,000 members nationally and has an extensive network of some 1,500 customer service agents across Australia.

WestNet's security services are offered as an optional added benefit to its members. WestNet is using Sophos PureMessage to screen email messages for computer viruses, hidden Trojans, spam and other malware. Sophos PureMessage also includes threat reduction features which can help prevent infections from unknown viruses and email-aware worms.

If WestNet identifies that an email contains a computer virus it is automatically deleted. Also, if an email has a greater than 50 per cent probability of being spam, the email is quarantined and a notification message is sent to the member. WestNet enables its members to release quarantined emails marked as spam, only, using a one-step release process.

"Customer satisfaction is WestNet's number one priority and we selected the Sophos PureMessage solution because of its flexibility and ease of use for both for our internal administration and for our members," said Peter Brown, WestNet's managing director.

"The software updates regularly as Sophos develops new methods of detecting spam and viruses, in turn providing greater protection for our members and enhancing the efficiency of our support."

Sophos Australia and New Zealand managing director, Rob Forsyth, said the Australian ISP market is becoming increasingly competitive and customer service was a clear market differentiator.

"We're pleased to be helping WestNet deliver added value to their members by protecting their vital email communications. Sophos PureMessage is an ideal email security solution for businesses and ISPs, and offers flexible management tools that take control of email traffic and protect against spam and viruses." Forsyth said.
