Sophos wins prestigious University of Hamburg contract

Sophos Anti-Virus protects universities across Germany

University of Hamburg

Sophos, a world leader in corporate anti-virus protection, announced today that the University of Hamburg has chosen its flagship product, Sophos Anti-Virus, to defend the University's servers and workstations from over 70,000 computer viruses, Trojans and worms.

The University of Hamburg chose Sophos Anti-Virus after an extensive evaluation of the many anti-virus solutions available in the market. Sophos Anti-Virus was found to best meet its needs.

Following the decision of Leibniz Computer Centre in Munich to deploy Sophos Anti-Virus in 2000, agreements have been reached with the federal states of Bavaria, Saxony and Lower Saxony to protect all their universities with Sophos Anti-Virus. Other customers include the University of Frankfurt, University of Cologne, Technical University of Braunschweig and the Technical University of Darmstadt.

"We are delighted the University of Hamburg has joined the long list of companies, organisations and educational establishments to have selected Sophos Anti-Virus to protect their systems from malware attack," said Dr Jan Hruska, joint CEO of Sophos. "The students of today will be the managers and decision-makers of tomorrow - so it is especially important to us that they are familiar with the world-beating solutions available from Sophos."

Sophos Anti-Virus has a strong record of protecting against the latest viruses and is regularly verified for its detection capabilities by independent testing bodies such as those from the ICSA, West Coast Labs and AV-Test.Org, based at the University of Magdeburg in Germany.
