Cause

This is caused by an error in the licence.sql file.

What To Do

Ensure the customer has not manually edited their licence.sql file in anyway. If they have, they will need to obtain a fresh copy from the link in their licence schedule.

If they have not made any changes themselves, it is likely an error was made when the licence.sql file was produced here at Sophos.

Check the install_wizard.log for the line: "JDBC provider exception: Unable to execute statement"

Under this line, the error statement section will tell you what part of the licence.sql file is in error. In the example above, the error statement is:

Error statement:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">

DELETE FROM mdm_system where paramkey='lic_0'

This error statement shows us that the licence.sql file has an erroneous HTML tag in it, for some reason.

The solution is to have a new, corrected licence.sql file created by Order Processing. You must email customerservice@sophos.com to request that a new licence.sql file be created, providing them with the information below:

  1. A copy of the licence.sql that's incorrect
  2. Details of the statement that the install_wizard.log shows is in error
  3. Company name of the customer
  4. Licence number
  5. Confirmation of what URL the customer wishes to use for the SMC server

Once Customer Service have provided the new licence.sql file to you or directly to the customer, they can use this to continue the installation.

If they have managed to continue the installation by manually removing the erroneous statement from their existing licence.sql file, they will need to upload the new, corrected file using the SMC Licence Update wizard, as in KBA 114260.
