When attempting to install Enterprise Console 4.x on a Windows 2008 server, installation fails with the following error message:
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Edition installation failed. Re-run Sophos Enterprise Console setup when this error has been rectified.
Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)
Microsoft Windows Server 2008
What To Do
If you encounter this error during installation, it is likely to be a defect in the Microsoft SQL Server installer.
In many cases, restarting the Enterprise Console installer should resolve the problem.
If re-running the installation program doesn't fix the problem, we suggest that you view the SQL Installation logs to confirm that the error occurs during the installation of Enterprise Console only.
- Browse to %programfiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\
- Open the Detail_ComponentUpdate.txt file.
- Search the text file for the following lines:
[Date / Time] Slp: Message:
[Date / Time] Slp: Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created.
- If you see this text, restart the Enterprise Console installation program.
If you do not see this text, you will need to install a service pack for SQL Server 2008 before attempting the Enterprise Console installation.
