Enterprise Console: Error 1935 displayed during installation

During installation of Sophos Enterprise Console, a dialog box opens on the screen, displaying the error message:

Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {303994BA - 6487 - 47AE - AF1D - 7AF6088EEBDB}. HRESULT: 0x80070002. assembly interface: IAssemblyCacheItem, function: Commit, assembly name: Microsoft.MSXML2, publicKeyToken="6bd6b9abf345378f", version="4.20.9818.0", type="win32", processorArchitecture="x86"

If you click 'OK', you will see the progress bars reverse and the installation rolls back, i.e. the installation is aborted.

What to do

This error is typically caused by one of the following:

Work through the following, in order:

Lack of write access to the C:\Windows\WinSxS folder
To detect this problem, browse to this folder, and attempt to write a file to it. If you cannot save a file, then the folder does not have write access.

  1. Change the NTFS permissions of the WinSxS folder to give everyone full control. Refer to your Windows documentation for details of how to do this.
  2. Continue the installation of Enterprise Console.
  3. When the installation is finished, the NTFS permissions of the WinSxS folder can be revoked if desired.

The presence of Webroot SpySweeper on the computer

  1. Shut down your internet connection.
  2. Open Windows services.
  3. Stop the 'Webroot SpySweeper' service.
  4. Continue the installation of Enterprise Console.
  5. When the installation is finished, restart the 'Webroot SpySweeper' service, if required, and restart your internet connection.

The presence of some adware files on the computer
The presence of some adware or adware-detection files on the computer can cause this problem. Ad-Aware Ad-watch can occasionally trigger this error message.

  • If the problem is caused by adware, use a reputable adware detection and removal utility to clear these files from your computer.
  • If the problem is caused by adware detection software, temporarily disable that software during installation, and enable it again afterwards.
