Question
Why do we sometimes get a green Key, even if the public Key for the LAN Crypt Security Officer (SO) certificate is not installed?

Answer
The reason for this behaviour is very easy to explain.

This only happens on

  • a SafeGuard LAN Crypt Administrative Workstation
    OR
  • if a LAN Crypt user is also a LAN Crypt Security Officer and is in possession of (a) the private key of that LAN Crypt Security Officer and (b)LAN Crypt user certificates (both *.p12 files are installed) .

Normally the public Key of that LAN Crypt Security Officer certificate would be installed automatically, when logging on to the encryption profile. Because that user is already in possession of the Private Key of that LAN Crypt Security Officer certificate, he also is in possession of the public key of the corresponding LAN Crypt Security Officer. Therefore the public key will not be installed.
